The following day lived up to Martin’s expectations. He took Hayley to a charity fair with a whole bunch of other kids and everyone had a whale of a time. Martin was proud of his new-found status as boyfriend which conferred privileges like walking arm in arm with Hayley, showing her how to shoot a rifle and taking alternate bites with her on a large piece of candy cotton. Afterwards they cadged a ride to Hayley’s house and once again Mrs. Brown provided a delicious meal.
